This is a two question help query:

1) Over christmas we got a new HP notebook from Costco. I had moved some music videos and music onto an external HD to free up some room on our old notebook. When I transfered them to the new HP iTunes didnt' recognize them. I had to go into explorer, into the folder, that was an iTunes folder, and double click each song to get iTunes to play it. Only then would iTunes recognize it in its library. It also moved it into another identically named iTunes folder.

2) We just got a new MacBook pro. I still have old music I didn't not transfer from the Dell to the HP, because I was worried about having to do that to all 2K songs. What is the best way of getting all these files onto the Mac? Consolodate on an external drive? Consolodate on the HP? Tips on how to transfer them and get iTunes to recognize them?

Thanks guys, I'm brand new to Macs and super excited I now have one.

You might want to try doing this using an iTunes feature called Home Sharing. Sorry I can't help you any further, but I have heard this is quite good for things like this.
