Transfering purchases between computers

Wife and I each have a macbook and an ipad. Each of us has our own apple ID. We each sync our ipad with our own computers. We both know each other passwords.

Is there a way via "home sharing" to share purchased apps between us? When we both enable home sharing we can see each others music BUT NOT each others apps.

Any solution here?

Main issue is that we have 2 kids and if one ipad has an app the other one wants it on their ipad. I'd rather not have to purchase apps twice.

The apps are tied to the Apple ID, no way to share the purchase unless you use the same Apple ID.
