iPod touch Transfering songs from Itouch to Computer (windows)

The title says it all- I need to transfer my songs from my Ipod unto my computer-windows.
-Does my Ipod need to be on a certain firmware to do it?
-Is there a software which would be able to do it?

Sorry if this question has been asked and I looked through the first 4 pages, but I'm not going to search 100+ pages.
