transfering text messages to new phone

My iphone 4 has been getting worse (from crackling to now people can't hear anything I say). I took it to the Apple store and the genius told me that I would lose all my text messages if I switched to another phone. Is there any way to transfer or save those messages? I have dozens of texts from dozens of clients that I would like to keep on my phone for business. Thanks in advance.

Every time you connect your phone to iTunes it makes a backup, which includes the texts. All you have to do is connect the new phone to that same computer and you should be prompted to restore from a backup from your old phone - text messages and all.
