Transferring Apple iTunes credit from one Id to another

Hello,

A friend of mine has some Apple itunes credit that he doesn't need. Is there a way for him to transfer them to my ID? He tried sending me a app gift, but it appears to be charging out of his CC rather than from credit he has.
