Transferring data from one iPhone to another

I just got myself a shiny new iPhone 5. How can I move things like Contacts and Calendar appointments over from my old iPhone without restoring from a backup?

restoring just contacts from icloud wont kill ya will it? easiest way.

As long as your old phone can be set to save that stuff to the cloud, just log in and have iCloud sync those items on your new phone (it's under settings)
