Transferring Data To External

I have a MBP and I just got a 120GB external drive. I want to get as much stuff on there as i can, but i dont want to mess anything up in doing so. Whats the best way to get all my music, videos, photos, documents, and pretty much anything that isnt an application over to the external? Do i have to delete the files when im done sending? Will iPhoto and iTUnes still recognize where the files are? HELP!

This is a very common question. With my 'teach a man to fish' hat on - Google is your friend, and there are references on the Apple web site on how to do this, plus plenty of threads on this forum - try searching for "moving itunes library", or moving iphoto library".
