Transferring files from a PC

Hi there,

My aunt is going to switch to a Mac from an old circa 2001 Gateway. What would be the easiest way to transfer her files over?

If there are a lot of them/big files, you can set up file sharing between the two computers easily enough.

Okay, but is there a way to do it automatically through the Migration Assistant? This isn't just files, but also email accounts, urls, and settings.

No, not from a PC. Migration Assistant only works with other Macs. Some applications (email programs, schedulers, etc.) can export to formats readable by Mac software, though.

Not really. Mail actually provides a fair number of import options.

I would guess Outlook Express.

As mentioned in another thread, might MobileMe help out here? It hasn't been available for terribly long and .Mac didn't have Windows support, so I don't know that many people would have tried this (and written about it).

It may be she could simply sign up for a MobileMe trial account, sync her PC, then sync her Mac with the PC.

Can anyone that has MobileMe confirm this?
