I need to transfer some large iMovie project files (~30gb) from a Macbook Pro to a new Macbook, which has no firewire port. Can this be done easily?

Rather than over the network you can also just hook an Ethernet cable between the two computers and go digging around in the local network for the shared folders set up in the Sharing system preferences pane. You don't even need an internet connection to share files over Ethernet.

Thanks, just tried that and apparently it will take about 24 hours to transfer the files! Is there any way to transfer the files with a regular USB cable between the computers?

Ethernet and FireWire are both faster than USB. Just let it run overnight.

(I'm assuming gigabit would be used in a P2P network between two gigabit-capable devices...)
