Hey all,

I just got a portable hard drive to use for backups. I've installed OS X on the drive so I can boot from it, but I've run into a problem.
I want to copy all my system preferences from my HD to the portable, and I'm sure the files are all in the library, I just don't know where.

Anyone know how to go about doing this?

What preferences are you wanting to transfer? Some are user specific while the others are system wide. Most are saved in the Preferences folder in the Library folder. Both your user account and the systems root directory has a Library folder.

Everything. I want my portable HD to match the same prefs I have set on my regular hard drive. Basically all the settings in "system preferences."

I got it. I copied and pasted the "preferences" folder in my system and user libraries to the new drive. Thanks everyone!
