Transferring to IPhone 5

I did my transfer to iPhone 5 and all of the pics in my camera roll duplicated on both my phone and to iCloud. No idea why. I had already upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. Can anyone offer up any help? I would rather not go through 1800 pics and delete the duplicates.
