Posting here since this is more of a software question than hardware. I'm upgrading to the new MBP, my 2nd macbook. So, this is my first time upgrading and transitioning to a new laptop. What all do I need to do to prepare? I'd like to almost start from scratch... reinstall the apps I want and ignore the apps I don't. All the documents I want to come over are either in Dropbox, iCloud or my external Synology so I should be good there. I do not have a Time Machine backup, fwiw.

Migration Assistant is the best way. It will transfer your account from the old Mac to the new, including all login details, settings etc. It will transfer ALL of your apps though.

If you use it, best to do it as you do the initial setup on your new Mac.
