How can I tweak my Internet?

I just got a 100mbit Internet connection that I love. However, i cannot benefit from this amazing speed to the full extent. Web browsing seems like a dream, however, transmission and other download programs is not cooperating willingly.

I seem to use about 10% of my capacity??

Port seem to be open. I'm trying files with 1000+ seeders. Still my maximum speed is limited to 2-3mbit???

ISP's often block/thorottle bit torrent traffic, try masking it in a VPN connection, or using a different protocol, like usenet.

Sorry, but I'm the average user.. heard these expression before but I don't know what they really mean.

If you could give me a quick guide, it would be great. Sure many other users would also appreciate it!

In addition, don't set your connection limit sky-high. A connection limit of more than 150 or so in Transmission slows my router to a crawl.

What does it show under

Transmission preferences / bandwidth
- are you limiting yourself?
- are you setting upload too low or too high (100% of upload bandwidth)

Transmission preferences / network
- listening port should be changed occassionally
