In the Login screen and Mission Control, Yosemite 10.10 employs a transparency effect, which produces a glass-like obfuscation of the desktop. The low-quality colours introduced when this effect is active produce a displeasing gradient. While this effect isn't as noticeable on Retina screens (though still quite obvious), it is painfully apparent when operating with a resolution of 1080p. While the grey background of previous iterations of OS X did not fit with the aesthetic of iOS 8, this new implementation seems to give OS X an appearance of cheapness. Has anyone discovered a way to turn off the transparency of the login and mission control screens? The 'Reduce Transparency' option in Accessibility settings does not seem to affect these screens.
