Sometimes I watch documentaries and take notes for class and it would be nice to have VLC player lay on top of word and be transparent. I don't need it to be full screen. It's also nice to watch a video while browsing the internet.
I'd appreciate any help.

check Extended Controls in the Window menu, Opaqueness slider.

np, but i've found it to have some quirks, at least with 0.9.9b. i'm sure you'll see for yourself when you try it. good that it mostly works though.
