Hi, I've a bit of a problem right now with emptying the trash. I stopped secure erasing a large (25Gb) file half way through which has left the "Stopping..." message on my screen for the last hour.

The erase status is stuck in the same place and the hard drive doesn't sound like its winding down but inspecting the launchd process shows activity with Context Switches and Unix System Calls.

I'd be grateful if anyone can advise as to whats happening and what might be done. I can't restart the process until its finished (?) so is it unadvisable to quit the process from Activity Monitor and would this be bad for the system/hard drive? Any help is very appreciated, Thank you!

Thank you very much for the reply- process just finished and exactly as you foresaw; stress levels down, knowledge and quality of life index up- advice hugely appreciated, thank you!
