Trash folder is missing

Howdy all, my first post here!
My fiance has an older Mac g4 running OS X 10.4.11 and a while back someone did some "housekeeping" for her without consulting her or even telling her what they did, and her trash folder seems to be missing. This is the only thing I have found to explain why everything gets deleted immediately when it goes to the trash. We have tried remake this folder with no success a few times. Any ideas?

It should be a fairly quick and easy matter to download and (re)install the OS 10.4.11 Combo Updater. Leastwise, I think that will put things to right.

Just ensure you DL and install the one that is right for your machine; PPC or Intel:

PPC http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170

Intel http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_4_11_Combo_Update__Intel_

No love on either I'm afraid. I tried the combo update for the PPS to no avail, and the link talks about operating systems newer than Tiger and I am uncertain I want to type more into her Terminal without knowing for sure it is going to be helpful and not the reverse. Thank you both though for the ideas, I think I am going to give up for now though.
