Hi all,

I'll be heading to Sydney (from the US) the first week of July. Last year when I visited Ausrtalia, it seems that all my precautions to protect my wallet from the exorbitant international charges were in vain. I signed up for an international calling plan with ATT, and even prepaid for internation data. I was very judicious with my useage (checked emails maybe 2 times the whole trip, sent one picture to my wife from the Opera House, didnt make very many calls, any calls that were made were quite short, etc...)and still came home with a MUCH larger bill than I anticipated.

So, what is the best way to use the iphone overseas? Can I do something like try and get a Google Voice invite and forward my vm to that number, then have it SMS me the text (thus saving on voicemail data and such)? Any other ideas? My hotel doesnt have free wifi, so that makes it a little different, though I would imagine using Skype would still be more economical... even on 3g.

Anyways, any thoughts or input? Thanks!
