Hello,

I will be traveling to Brazil in December and I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro under contract with Verizon.

What are my options for using data / internet in Brazil while still using my US-based VZW phone number for iMessage and FaceTime?

Thank you.

Simplest & most compatible (note, I didn't say "Cheapest") is let Verizon handle it - https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/

If you're going to be there for more than a couple of weeks, though, it could get expensive.
Verizon does have a $100 monthly travel plan, so if you travel more than 9 days, that's likely the best option.

When I travel I often purchase an Airalo data plan for data, in addition to using the travel pass. The $12 daily travel pass only kicks in if you make or receive a call or SMS/MMS message (or use data) during the day, so using a cheap data plan works for me - I can FaceTime for most of my calls, or use WhatsApp for calling locally. But if you send/receive a lot of SMS or calls, and are there more than 9 days, there is that $100 plan for the month.

If your iPhone is unlocked, I would recommend an eSIM. I am using Airalo and MobiMatter for a few years now and I am very happy. Specially Mobimatter has really good prices.

Check Mobimatter for Brazil: https://mobimatter.com/en/esim-brazil
10GB Data and 1000 Minutes local calls for 21.99$
15GB Data and Unlimited Minutes locally for 26.99$

Both of them are very affordable.

And if you want 5$ off for Mobimatter you can use my Code:
Code: ESIM@86869
You will get 5$ off and I will also get 5$ credit just to be transparent. It is a win-win :)

I am in no way related to MobiMatter. You can also use every other eSIM Provider like Airalo, Nomad or whatever.

Frankly Verizon's plan is SHOCKINGLY expensive at $12/day, compared to T-Mobile. I was just in Switzerland for 8 days and my total cost (due to 3 or 4 phone calls) was about $2.00. T-Mobile gives free data & texts and $0.25/min calls in some 200+ different countries, including Switzerland and Brazil, just built into the plan I'm on. Some plans are $0.01/MB for data.

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile a couple of years ago, because it basically cut my phone bill in half... didn't even REALIZE at the time that it would handle international travel so well too.
