Traveling to Uk with new Verizon IPHONE 5 in October

Can someone suggest the best local deal on a local sim for calling back to the US and Data?

1. The phone was purchased off of contract. Do I have to get Verizon to unlock the phone for me?

2. Will there be an issue getting a pre-paid nano Sim in early October? I usually use an Orange sim when I go.

I certainly hope I don't have to take my crappy Blackberry Storm again this time.
