I have a 15 inch mbp i9. I'll be traveling a lot in the coming months, and not always near a power outlet.

Apart from screen brightness, and using safari instead of chrome, how can I extend my battery life? I usually get about 5 hours of usage right now, need to stretch it to 8-9. Browser work mostly.

Some suggestions based on my 2016 model.
  • Get iStatMenu so that you can see instantaneous power consumptions.
  • Idle power consumption is around 5W, which gives you 14 - 15 hours in idle.
  • Do not have anything external connected to your MBP, that includes beamers.
  • Make sure you do not activate the GPU as that tend to increase power draw up towards 20W.
  • For the browser no videos and get an AD-blocker.
  • I believe Safari is fairly power efficient, Chrome not so much, but I have not really tested
With light note taking, I have had 40 - 50% battery left at the end of a full day workshop. So I am no longer worried if I forget the charger in the hotel room.

Very good advice, I'd suggest downloading gfx card to control which GPU uses the apps you using
