Dear community, I recently got myself a new 15'' Retina MBP and wanted to use file from my PC. I have a hard drive that I have been using with my windows laptop and I cannot see any data on it when I open it on my mac. I understand there is a formatting issue, but what can I do to open these files on my mac? thank you!

Does the drive mount on OS X?

OS X, can read NTFS formatted drives (it cannot write to them), and it can read/write to FAT volumes so its not a formatting issues.

Putting on my moderator hat, I renamed your thread because you're not asking to run the windows operating system on the Mac but access data from an external drive.
