Ive been struggling backing up my 8 Plus using icloud. Im using this method as I only want certain things backed up.

Ive just upgraded to ios 15 to see if that helps. Problem is it gets half way then just hangs and time remaining stays at something silly like 6 hours. Even after overnight last night.

Any help on why the back up wont finish would be much be appreciated so I can get my 13 up and running.

I recently backed up an iPhone that had 30 GB of data on it to iCloud for the first time ever and it took 5 hours to finish using a 5/50 internet connection (5 Mbps up).
The progress bars and time remaining display were totally worthless- not relevant to anything.

if you’ve got a lot of data it could possibly take days to create the first backup with a slow internet connection.
Also if your internet service drops out for even a second, the backup will fail (I’ve found in my experience).

I think iCloud servers are really slow at the moment with millions of people accessing them with new phones.
I’m trying to download one of my iTunes movies (on a 50 Mbps connection) and I’m only getting a download speed of about 4 to 5 Mbps).

Its frozen again now with 20 mins remaining but this time the bar is about 3/4 done. So that point definitely checks out!

I just really dont want to back up to my mac and then set up from that back up and bring all the clutter with it.

Both backups (Mac or iCloud) contain the same amount of “clutter”.
A restore from a Mac backup still requires you to download all your apps from the App Store again.

I’m only backing up so I can wipe and restore my 13 pro max to fix the watch unlock issue. I have a very fast internet connection (1000/250 - actual speeds in MB is more like 80MB and 5MB up) but man it is taking ages. 140GB to back up.
Been going overnight all night and only about 35%. Not sure how much I want watch unlock…

Well i backed up to my mac and restored from that back up. downside as i expected is my shiny new 13 pro looks just like my old 8+. i wanted the data but with the look of the 13 display wise.
