Trouble burning, using itunes

I recently bought the Lacie D2 52x32x52 Firewire CD writer which, also is sold by Apple at their online store. I installed it according to the instructions, quite simple, just plug and play. However, once i want to burn using itunes a message popped up stating that itunes can not burn the disc since the writer doesn't respond properly. So now I'm left to using Toast which came along with the disc writer. Does anybody know how I can get itunes to work ?? I'm running OS X 10.2.8....
