Trouble formatting a 3.0TB external hard disk

Hello,

I'm trying to format a WD Caviar Green hard disk in a Sata caddy but I'm having trouble with disk utility.

It seems to only want to format it as 850GB instead of 3TB.

I've seen a few threads in other forums but they were all windows based and too technical for me.

My caddy does support 3TB.

Caddy? What caddy? What computer? What SATA card? In Terminal type:

diskutil list

reply back with the result, ideally with code tags (highlight text, click the # button in the toolbar).
