My Mac went to sleep during a file transfer, and I'm worried it's broke my USB stick. When I try to format it, I get this message.

Can anyone help?

Instead of having the Mac format the stick on its own, try using Disk Utility to delete the single partition on the stick, but recreate it and format it.

That should help.

OP:

Do you happen to have ANOTHER computer you could take the flash drive to, and try to re-initialize it on that machine?

If this is possible, I suggest you do that.

If it doesn't initialize on the second computer (either Mac or PC), I'd be looking for another flashdrive...

Might seem like over kill but -

Eject the flash drive. Reboot your computer and try another USB port. Use the disk utility if the drive is recognized.
