trouble importing movie from camera to imovie

I have a new digital camera and I recorded some videos last night and today i imported them to my computer. When I tried importing the video clip to imovie from iphoto it told me that there was no match found. Can anyone help me out?

As well as what version of iPhoto, and how you were trying to transfer them.

Its a brand new sony cyber-shot (DSC-W120) but that shouldn't matter. The video clips have already been imported from my camera to iPhoto. I'm working with iLife 08. I've tried everything.
