I just upgraded to the iPhone 3G S from the first gen iPhone. I want to give my old iPhone to my dad, but I don't want to have to sign up for the iPhone data plan. He gets wifi where he works, so he really doesn't need to pay $20/month to use Edge.

I figured out the only way to do this is to jailbreak the phone and unlock it so I can put in his SIM card (he also uses AT&T btw). That way I can avoid signing him up on an iPhone data plan and I can turn off Edge.

I have tried to jailbreak this phone a bunch of times and I keep failing! I first tried using Pwnagetool and it would work successfully, but when I tried to restore from the custom .ipsw, iTunes would always give me an error.

I then tried using redsn0w, but it keeps freezing on "waiting for reboot." My iPhone just never reboots.

I have tried both methods several times and it never seems to work! Any ideas???? Maybe there is a better way?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am trying to put a jailbroken version of 3.0 on the first gen iPhone. Just incase that wasn't clear.
