trouble loading .MTS files into imove set in HDV 1080i

hey im trying to load this hdv into imovie but i keep getting this error message
"The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/charlesharmer/Desktop/00051.MTS” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048"
what can i do also is it possible to edit hdv in final cut pro 5.0.1?
