Trouble Log and Capturing

Hey guys, I'm a newb at all this so this will probably be an easy question to answer:

I'm have trouble log and capturing to my mac which is a Mac OS X (Version 10.6.5 - if that information helps) with FCP 7 and from my OLD Sony Digital Handy Cam 8

I'm using firewire and when I play the footage in the camera and in the log&cap window, they both play but when i try using "Capture Now" it just goes black and doesn't start capturing.

how to i get the footage to my comp?

Can you capture via QuickTime X/7 or iMovie?

What exact Firewire cable do you have?

And can you please edit your post via the

button and add a "T" in front of the first image's IMG tags?
That is to create smaller thumbnail images, which are clickable to view in full size, but to prevent horizontal scrolling in this thread, as not everyone has 2560 pixel as horizontal resolution.
