Just purchased a docking station (WaveLink to the tune of $180!)) and want to use my Sony TV as a mirror monitor rather than my laptop screen. I have HDMI from the docking station connected to the TV. Can't figure out how to set up the mirroring. All the YouTube I've seen just say connect the wires which I've done more than 10 times. Nothing happens. Is there a setting I'm missing? My laptop is a MacBook Pro 2019. Just purchased it a few months ago and am still learning.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated!!

Thanks

I think you mean you want to keep your laptop monitor open (and thus using the TV as a mirror screen) right? Even if you want to eventually close the laptop (and use it in closed-clamshell mode so TV is your primary screen), start this way, as if you get it working with laptop open, you just need to close it to get to the latter end-state.

Assuming you've plugged in the cable and set the TV to have the right HDMI source input (would double check this, assume your TV has multiple HDMI inputs), is there an app that comes with the docking station where you can flip on/off the outputs? Assuming not (I think most docks just output automatically when plugged in), go into your display preferences (or click the monitor icon in your top right menu bar) and see if the TV shows up as one of the displays.

If that still doesn't work, to ensure it's not the dock, would be helpful if you can get a USB-C > HDMI cable so you can plug the TV directly into the laptop to see if that works. If it does, would point to something having to do with the dock...

Hey Chris
Sorry it took me forever to respond We had some complications in our lives.
Your post got us going on our problem. I didn't think the doc was the problem as it's model name showed up in system report, hardware, thunderbolt. While following your suggestion my wife found a website showed holding down the option key changed the "gather windows" button to "detect displays", clicking on it showed my Sony tv and monitor layout options including mirroring. I'm on to pairing my keyboard and trackpad.
Thanks for the help,
Chubbles
