I have songs I have created over the years using GarageBand, Logic, etc. In the past, I would make an mp3 copy of the song I recorded and add it to my iTunes. A long time ago, I was a PC user, so some of the song files might have been created on a PC and brought over to my Mac when I fully switched over to using just Macs. When I had done so, I had simply transferred my iTunes Music folder from my PC to my Mac, which worked. But I think I had some lingering issues from the fact that my iTunes Music Library was born in a PC.
A few months ago, I had a hard drive crash with my MacBook Pro and I had to restore everything from scratch since I didn't have a recent backup. This involved creating a new iTunes library and importing all the songs that I could save from the faulty drive to the new drive. I've actually always wanted to do this - reimport everything to finally have a fully Mac music library.
As it turned out about a third of my music collection imported without many details about the tracks - most just said Track 1 for the song name and nothing else. I thought I was screwed until I discovered the Get Track Names feature which I used to fill in all the details about these thousands of songs. Phew! I could be mistaken, but I think iTunes used to save the track details in an xml file/database instead of embedding them into the tracks themselves as it does now. So any changes I made to the artist name would be lost if I lost the db.
But something is still wrong with my personal tracks. I name my songs with the date I recorded them and I wanted to switch the naming convention from say 01-09-2009 to 20090109 format. So all I am doing is changing the title of the track. I enter my changes, click OK and it will look fine. But when I play the track, it switches back to the old name. How do I fix this? I can't get the corrected names to stay.
