I posted my issue in one of the larger iPhone tethering threads, but I figured I'd get better luck making a new topic (and I think it belongs in this forum specifically - more on that below).
I have successfully enabled the tethering option on my iPhone running the 3.0 firmware. When I try to connect to my MacBook via USB or Bluetooth, it connects, and finds an IP address and DNS name servers without an issue. Judging by appearances, things *should* be working.
However, I cannot seem to get Internet access on my machine. The network diagnostic tool fails on "ISP," and provides no suggestions to fix my problem.
I thought this was a problem with AT&T blocking tethering access, or with my iPhone, but I tried tethering the phone with another older MacBook and a 2008 aluminum model iMac I have in my house, and both were able to pair via Bluetooth and access the Internet without any problems.
The strange thing is that in all three cases, the computers seem to be connecting using the same settings, and my firewall is disabled, so I can't think of anything on my end that could be blocking access (and my AirPort and ethernet connection work fine).
I'm truly stumped. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of trying to totally reset my network options, but I can't find an appropriate plist file in the library folder to delete that would clear my preferences.
Thanks!
Edit: Just tried trashing the "SystemConfiguration" under the Preferences folder to reset my settings AND using a guest account. Tethering still doesn't work.
