Trouble updating my dads iPhone 4 that runs iOS 4 (*gasp*)

My dad has an iPhone 4 that runs iOS 4 (I know he's behind, he's not that advanced with "new technology"...his words). Anyway, I'm trying to update his phone to the current iOS 6, however, I keep getting an "update server cannot be reached" error on iTunes, what is this and how do I fix it?

iTunes can't contact apples servers to download the iOS file. Just google where to download the iOS IPSW file and manually update that way. Google the instructions. It's quicker than letting iTunes download the file itself.
