I am trying to upgrade my father-in-law's iPad 2 from 6.0.1 to 6.1. While it is a 3G version of the iPad, it has never been used or registered with at&t. I have a good wifi connection and can go to websites, check email, etc., however, the iPad keeps reporting:

Unable to verify update
iOS 6.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I pull up software update and 6.1 is the one it is trying to get. How do I change that?

Restart the computer and try again. If it still wants to restore 6.1, you'll have to manually download 6.1.2 and choose it to install.

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but I tried it again today and it upgraded to the latest iOS without any problems.
