trouble with long AVCHD clip Transfer in FCP7

Shooting 720 on Sony NXCam. I have no trouble with short clips with the log and transfer into FCP7. Clips longer than 5min are impossible. A 1hr clip took more than 12hrs to transfer. Checked all the settings, they match as instructed. Using a Mac Pro 8core with 12gb ram. Is this normal?

while looking through some posts. I noticed that there are issues with timecode. one solution stated that lpcm was the source. switched to dolby and transfer moved much faster. havent noticed drawbacks with dolby.
