My wife was using her mid2009 13" MacBook Pro when her dog jumped over her, knocking over a "nearly empty" coffee cup. She claimed that only a small amount of coffee (not decaf, black) hit the top deck to the left of the trackpad. But now the 1, q, a, z, vol+, vol-, and delete keys are non-responsive. The key feel is fine. What is the most likely damage? What is the most likely remedy? The life of that dog may be hanging in the balance.

I think this forum post will explain it all. http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/271875-official-i-spilled-liquid-my-macbook-what-do-i-do-now-thread.html

We took it to our new local Apple store this past Sunday. It was sent back to Apple for work. Since the battery was showing its age, the SuperDrive was non-functional, the trackpad was messed up, in addition to the keyboard issues the flat fee repair seemed like the best option.

Yeah, that seems like the best option.

Good Luck

We got it back Friday, in addition to everything else they determined that the 160GB hard drive wouldn't pass testing and replaced that as well. With a 500GB drive. The machine works perfectly, and yeah I do wish I'd made a full backup before we took it in. But we did copy out her documents folder and reinstalling her apps wasn't that difficult.
