Hello, I have the MBP 13", OSX snow leopard, and a Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
This mouse has 2 side buttons, and a scroll wheel with middle click functionality.
When I use this mouse on my PC, in Firefox, when I press the middle click over a tab, it closes the tab. When I press it on a link, it opens it in a new tab. When I press it on the web page, it brings up a scroll cursor and I can scroll the page.
With the Apple Mighty Mouse.. that I have used at college and Uni, it's the same.
When I plugged my IM 3.0 into my Mac today, the middle click functionality was assigned to one of the thumb buttons (the one at the top). So this button did all the middle click work instead.
I poked around in the system settings and couldn't find anything, so I downloaded Microsoft's Intellipoint Pro 7.1 drivers from their site, for Mac.
Now, thank God, the two thumb buttons correspond to back a page and forward in Firefox, great.
But, the middle mouse button does nothing. I have looked in the Mouse settings (the Microsoft settings) in the system settings, and while I can now assign all the functions to whatever buttons, hooray, I can't find the function that will make my mouse work like it does in Windows.. As in, having the middle click work with tabs and scrolling.
Is there any help? Sorry this post is so long-winded.
Thanks.
EDIT: I'm 1/3rd there. Under the settings I made the wheel click to be primary click with command held down. This opens tabs when I wheel click on them, but it doesn't close tabs and it also doesn't scroll either.
I know this functionality exists, as before I had the Windows drivers, it worked, but it was the wrong bloody button!
