Help! I recently went to the Apple store thinking of buying a new computer. The one I have now is a Mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro 2.53 GHZ with 256 GB HDD and 4 GB of RAM running Mountain Lion. Instead of upgrading, I was told that I could save money by purchasing OWC SSD Data Doubler and replace my optical drive. So I did. I replaced the hardware without any issues and the computer immediately recognized it. I backed my HDD up to an external HDD to make sure I had a replica before changing anything.

First, I formatted the HDD in the correct Mac format (Journaled). I restarted my computer and held the Option Key so that I could run Recovery mode and install the Mountain Lion. This worked, and I was now able to start up on either hard drive because they both had Mountain Lion installed. The next thing I did is try to get my Applications from the old HDD to the new SSD. I started this by dragging the applications from the HDD to the SSD. When I booted on the SSD, some applications worked and some did not. I realized that some of the files did not come over so I used Migration Assistant (while running on the SSD) in order to get all of the applications to the SSD from the HDD without errors. At first, everything seemed to be working fine.

Then I restarted my computer to see if that was needed to get applications like iTunes and iPhoto to work. This is when everything started going downhill. At restart I got a progress bar with the Apple logo. It was checking the SSD and after the progress bar went away the computer shut down. I powered on which took some time. After getting impatient I powered off, powered on and held the option key to run on the HDD. The SSD is now no longer discoverable when running on the HDD. Even when I plug in my external hard drive the computer does not recognize it.

Now I am trying to figure out how to at least be able to wipe my SSD clean but cannot find it anywhere to do it. I reset my NVRAM and PRAM. Still nothing. So now I am left with an even slower computer and an installed SSD that is not discoverable.

What do I need to do in order to get my SSD to be recognized so I can start over? Then once it is wiped clean, what is the right way to migrate OS and applications to the SSD so I can use that as the start up disk? I already found an article that will allow me to reassign my "Home Folder" to another hard drive other than the Start up disk. But I haven't even gotten to that point yet.

Please help. Thanks! Mark
