Hello there- thought you guys could help me troubleshoot this powerbook that just fell into my possession.

It's the 1.33 MHz version, 12", 256 MB RAM, etc

Anyways, when I press the power button, I can hear the boot chime but the LCD does not show anything. I took it apart and found that there is no hard drive in the machine. After putting it back together it is still acting in the same way.

Even without a hard drive shouldn't it still show a gray screen and perhaps a flashing question mark on boot?

I have tried resetting the PRAM (but for some reason I don't hear more than one chime making me think that it's not doing anything). I have also reset the PMU.

I am in the process of getting my hands on a mini-DVI adapter so I can check it on an external display.

Any Ideas?

Thanks much.

I just tried to use an external display and nothing... not looking good.

The PB is known to have defective soldering on the motherboard that would cause the graphic cards to come loose; this sounds just like that.
