Now they were all very lucky!

I think that driver has some Christmas presents to buy this year and every year!

I want to see better pics of the crater - they said it took out the whole section of the road.....that's just nuts. Imagine something like that happening on a major freeway at rush hour in a large city....if it was in DC or NYC everyone would think it was a terrorist attack.

Wow. Its amazing that no one was seriously hurt or killed in this incident.

Mr. Anderson, I too am eager to see more pictures of the crater. Though the pic on cnn actually might be all that is left of the road

EDIT... just saw the previous post... DANG!

It is very hard to get the whole grasp of the situation from that picture. Amazing that no lives were lost. My prayers are with them for a full and complete recovery. :(

Witnesses rushed to help the driver and his passenger, freeing the pair from their safety belts, McCleve said.

Though I am adamant about using seat-belts, it's so sad that some people have to be saved from them after the are saved by them in accidents.

Thanks goodness no one was killed.

jeez, from that pic it looks like the highway got bombed.

exactly what I was thinking....

but that's 38,000 pounds or 19 tons of high explosives - not your average bomb :D

It's unsettling to think about 19 tons of explosives on the road. And is it 19 tons of unstable explosives? - the truck rolls and that's enough to unsettle the stuff? What if one of these just hits the brakes too hard in a panic stop? The delay from rescue to explosion is interesting. Some sort of decal to warn rescue crews and tailgaters would be on the truck?

Jeez. That expolosion looks like a mini-nuclear blast. I wonder if the shock wave registered on seismic meters.
