My launch day Cosmic Orange iPhone is still somewhere in the UPS network.

I get a new PM annually with the 1UP.

While I wait, I ran to my local Apple Store and got the Air since I can return it within 14 days. I wanted to do this so in a month from now when I saw one and held one I would have a wonder if I should have tried the Air this year.

After 24 hours I’ll say I am quite impressed with the premium feel, look, weight of this phone. Battery has been pretty good considering the first few days of any new phone is worse than usual.

Single Speaker does not bother me as much as I expected BUT the camera I’m just not certain if I can get pass due to you can’t zoom out to fit more into frame like the Pro.

Whenever my Cosmic PM delivers I’ll have a much harder choice than I expected.

Just holding this Air or even it in my pocket is crazy in weight difference vs my 16 PM.

Anyone else go from PM to the air and your thoughts? Regrets?

I went from the 16PM to the Air and thus far, I have no regrets. I really like the form factor (and weight) of the Air. I am a simple iPhone user. If I want anything with more sound, screen size or ability, I have my iMac and HomePods for those kinds of things.

Good on you for keeping an open mind and giving it an honest try. I would say not to allow any comment here (either way) to sway you. Be objective and honest with yourself while using the phone. That way you won't be conflicted.

i went from 17PM to the Air. Had it exchanged at the Apple Store.

Reasons why:
* 17PM was just too heavy for sustained use. call me weak but all I could think was how heavy the phone was
* the air is more durable than the 17PM. titanium chassis makes the phone built like a tank
* feels more luxurious than the 17PM
* Pro series feels compromised with the weak anodization, resulting in easily chipped and dented chassis

I hope Apple continues to iterate on the Air, as I don't think I will be able to upgrade to a heavier phone like the Pro series moving forward

I’m used to the PM weight asi get that annually. I’m now worried about the PM paint issues I’m reading about. In store on Saturday every Pro had scratches on the back already

Got the Air from always having the largest iPhone size offered. Always told myself I wouldn’t get the max every year. Always ended up with it.

Been slimming down the tech lately, realizing I don’t need a mac pro, MacBook Pro. The Mac mini and mba work great for a non pro user like myself.

The longer I have it, the more I like it. Granted, the speaker is not that great if you’re watching YouTube with the phone speaker. Ringtone & notification sounds are just fine. Camera is also good enough for me.

I got the Air and will trade in my 16 Pro if I keep it.

I love the slimness, it’s a transformational experience when using it. It’s marginally too wide for me and a bit slippery but I don’t want a case on it so if I keep it I’ll get a wrap or something similar to add some grip.

I’ll be fine with the cameras other than I used the 0.5 quite a lot. As a workaround, it’s the Pano mode or the new front camera.

But I’m not 100% set on keeping it. It’s a lower monthly cost for me to keep my 16 Pro for another year, so I’m torn between the financially smarter option and the superior cameras etc, vs a phone that’s more pleasant overall to use (and as it spends all of its time in my hand or pocket, the importance of its size and weight really cannot be overstated)

Yeah I used the .5 a lot to get more in the shot, That is I think my biggest hang up, IF my Cosmic Orange PM delivers today, I will probably wait a day or two before I decide if I will open that one or if I will keep ot and return the Air. I LOVE the way the Air feels in my hand and in my pocket its such a change from having a heavy phone pulling my pockets down. Decisions for sure.

I have always had the Pro Max phones and I have the 17 Pro Max that I’m now returning. The flagship phones are just becoming too bloated and too heavy. I’m not a power user and my main reason for having the Pro Max was the screen size.
My favourite phone was the iPhone X. It was slim and easy to hold in the hand and look like a black slab. That’s why I have ordered an Air to replace my Pro Max. It looks fresh modern and the screen size is good and it’s light and not cumbersome. Its camera will do everything I need which is basically point and shoot half decent photos. I’m not bothered about the battery life as I’m not on my phone all day long and it will easily lasts me a day as I have my iPad and MacBook. Apple TVs and AirPods to cover any technical short comings. When I’m out and about, I only use my phone and watch for emails , messaging and phone calls.
The Air should do me nicely when it arrives in a couple of days
I have to admit, I will be taking a very close look at the iPhone Fold next year if it’s not too heavy.

I got my Space Black Air on Saturday and so far I’ve fallen in love with it and I’m very impressed! It feels amazing to have this size screen on something so comfortable and thin in the hand. Love how premium it looks and how strong it feels.

The Air is not more durable than the 17 pro max. Its not built like a tank. The glass and back do not hold up to drop tests as well as the 17 pro max. Fairly significantly less drop resistant. The Air does hold up better to cosmetic damage, and the edge doesn't deform nearly as easy as the Pro; however, that doesn't matter if the entire screen breaks much sooner. Go watch the videos. That doesn't mean the air isn't durable, it is, especially for how thin and minimalistic it is, but I wouldn't call it a tank that doesn't need a case. It still very much needs a case.

16 Pro to 17 Air and loving it!

Battery: Air battery has been awesome - holding a charge for the full weekend on a single charge (2 day battery life).

Although the work week will be real test compared to the 16 Pro I have had to charge nightly.

Camera - haven't used it so it's a moot point.

Speaker - works perfect for speaker phone calls and facetime.

Weight - much lighter on my belt !

Thin form factor - easier to handle with my arthritic wrist, hands and fingers...

This year, it’s all about choice. Personally, cosmetic damage bothers me more than cracked screens which get easily replaced under AppleCare. But I’d imagine some people don’t care at all.

I have had pretty minor drops that dent and scuff aluminum phones but not titanium or stainless steel ones. After owning almost every iPhone since 2007, only one cracked screen….iPhone X. And I love going caseless. Other than minor scratches in the anti reflective coating, my phones look new still after a year or two since the switch to stainless steel in iPhone X.

If I needed the cameras or battery life of the Pro Max, I’d be happy with a minimal case on it like Pitaka. But wouldn’t go caseless like I have on phones since 2017.

This drop test video of all the new iPhones showing the Pro models starting to get cosmetic damage to the aluminium from the first modest drops, with significant dents and chips to the aluminium later on & even the chassis warping, whilst the Air was still pretty much perfect.

The Air’s back glass only broke from the top of the ladders about 20ft drop on its back, with the titanium frame holding up really well. The screen shattered on the Pro Max and the screen on the Pro became unusable (but didn’t crack) from the same height.

They’re all durable and the Ceramic Shield 2 screens are a really big improvement over the previous generation.
