trying to activate old used iphone.

here is my situation.. A friend of mine gave me their old iphone (version 1 not 3g) and moved out of the country. She told me that i could use my old sim card in my old ATT phone.

My question is, if i take my SIM card out of my current phone (Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman) and put it in the iphone, will it work? can i just use the iphone to make phone calls? Will my SIM be married with her IMEI number with her name still on it? i dont understand how this could work?

If you unlock the phone you will be able to use it with any GSM SIM.

Take a look in the Hacks section of the forum for how to do that.
