I inserted the RESTORE CD and held the C key down. I get a message saying: This image has a missing or outdated checksum resource. Select another configuration.

I want to clear the HD off so I can donate the computer, or dispose of it as the case may be. No idea what to do about this message. Any help out there?

Sounds like there's either something wrong with your install disc, or your optical drive.

A) Are there any visible scratches/dirt on the disc? Tried wiping it off well and giving it another go?

B) Does the optical drive work properly with other discs? Might need cleaning, or could even be faulty...

Thank you!

I'll check out both of those suggestions! I appreciate the help!
