I have a 13" Macbook (aluminum unibody) which I am trying to connect through my Insignia 42" LCD. I'm using a mini display to HDMI adapter & running HDMI to the LCD which works fine at 1080p however I'm having problems with audio.

I tried to run sound directly through my Sony receiver & bought a Toslink 3.5mm to optical cable to do so but it isn't working, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L0Y382/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
Other options I've tried include using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable from MB to LCD & also 3.5mm to RCA also from MB to LCD. None of these work either. I talked to Insignia about it & their claim is that I can't use HDMI & run an audio cable separately which I know isn't be true based on other threads & videos I've looked at.

Any help would be much appreciated.
