So I bought a Dell U3415 ultrawide monitor for a computer I'm going to build, but since I don't have it built yet I just wanted to check if the monitor is working. I saw that it came with a mini displayport to displayport cable, so I thought maybe I could hook it up with my Macbook Pro (early 2011). However, when I plugged it in, it just says the monitor is in power saving mode, and I don't see any mirroring options on my laptop. The connection does seem to be recognized though, since when I unplug it my Macbook screen blanks for a bit like it usually does when connected to external monitors. I'm just confused as to whether my MBP just can't handle that monitor since it is pretty high res or if there's something wrong with what I'm doing (or worse, if there's something wrong with the monitor). Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!
