Trying to connect MacBookPro to Samsung Series 6 52in LCD TV

Today we purchased a new TV, and I worked for over an hour trying to connect my Mac to the TV and nothing seemed to work.
I have a DVI to VGA connector, since my mac doesn't support the mini-DVI to VGA...
The Mac recognized the TV, but the TV didn't recognize the Mac... Is there something I'm missing out on?

Try going DVI-HDMI instead of VGA
