I cannot drag and drop from my Mac to my Seagate

I cannot drag and drop from my Mac documents to my Seagate HD only I am getting the circle with the line through it! I just got my Seagate a few months ago and I was able to do the first back up just fine. Now it won't allow me to do any drag and drop. I am simply trying to move new folders I have created in my Mac to the Seagate HD using drag and drop from finder screen to the Seagate HD screen. HELP...Please!!!

My guess is something bad happened to your external drive and it was marked as read only. You could try to use disk utility to fix it. How did you format the drive?

Since you are calling these copy operations "backups", why don't you just use Time Machine to automate this?
