My parents have finally replaced their 2007 iMac with something more modern, and have offered it up for free to somebody else local.
I've moved all their files to their new machine, and have been trying to do a clean install of the latest OS that the old Mac supports (Mavericks).
Initially I tried the default installer which tries to download it over the internet, and having tried this now 5 times, it seems to get to the end of the download and just go back to the same "Install OS X" recovery screen.
I then tried creating a bootable installer for Mavericks, but this fails when I try to create it because the it says the "Install OSX Mavericks is damaged and can't be opened". I couldn't find the Mavericks installer on Apples website, so downloaded it from archive.org as helpfully linked to in this post.
I'm now kind of stuck and would be grateful for any thoughts as to next steps.
Cheers
