I'm trying to trash an app that won't show up anywhere. Spotlight won't find it. It's a virus scanner that I installed a long time ago, and Spotlight shows me the scan logs, but not the app itself. It's on a timed scan schedule so it keeps popping up, but I don't want to use it anymore. How do I get rid of it?

I've never used a virus scanner on OS X, but I've got an idea: Check your /etc folder, which can be accessed from the Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder. I have Undercover, which installs itself in the /etc folder to avoid being subverted. I think the virus scanner might've used the same technique.

I just found out how to get rid of it, so it's all good. Thanks for your help, guys.

Well, it's only for this specific program only, but for anyone who has tried to uninstall ClamXAV only to find that it still runs, here's how to get rid of it completely:

To uninstall ClamAV (the open source scanning engine that ClamXav installs and uses), run the 'engine remover' that came in the DMG you downloaded, or if you've deleted that already, download it from here and run it.
